LECTURE — STRANGERS IN LANDSCAPE

Claudia Nina is a Brazilian journalist and author of 13 books, including novels, children’s literature, and criticism. She will speak about her novel, Porcelain Landscape (Rocco, 2014), one of the finalists for the Rio de Janeiro Literary Prize. Her lecture will focus on loss of identity, questions of genre, the cultural clash between characters and hostile landscapes, and the Brazilian social context.

The Portuguese program at the University of Utah presents a "Tarde Brasileira" full of activities that will bring a little of the cultural diversity of Brazil closer to the U. Activities include samba, zumba, capoeira, regional dances, Bossa Nova, and MPB. Come have fun with us! All are welcome — Portuguese skills not required!
