A Different Kind of Winter Break
From Salt Lake City to Camerino, Italy, to help the victims of a devastating earthquake.
I did not plan on spending Christmas break in my homeland this year. But when the heart calls we shouldn’t waste anytime. I left on December 12th after hearing that the earthquake in Italy continued to cause loss after loss and deep suffering. I joined an organization that provided assistance and support to the many inhabitants of Camerino, a town in the province of Macerata, Marche, central-eastern Italy.
My life is forever changed after this experience. I will always carry in my heart the people, their humble smiles and their warm long embraces. I witnessed courage, strength and resilience in the darkest of moments. For a while I forgot who I was, I lost track of time. All that mattered was helping those less fortunate than me, those who in a heartbeat lost everything but not their hope.
The press of Montepulciano decided to tell my story in the following article and I thought I would share with all of you. There is so much good to do out there!
